*My thanks to the KidLitExchange for lending me an advanced reading copy of this book to review here and there. *
The Fandom is a story within a story, dystopian- yes, fantasy yes, dark comedy- yes.
The story begins at Comic-Con as you would imagine and the reader gets a sense of what “The Gallows Dance” fandom entails. Let’s stop there for a minute- isn’t that the best title? I mean, creepy wise its up there in my top ten. I’d read that book. These kids are crazy about it and are dressed in cosplay waiting for a photo op with the stars of the movie when they are suddenly themselves in the film.
The plot starts changing almost immediately and the “fans” are trying to get the plot back on track. Violet loves this fictional world so much that one thing I found interesting is how tempted she is to just stay there. Who hasn’t fantasized about living in their favorite book? In this story, the reader sees that maybe it isn’t all you think it will be.
This book is twisty and I read it in just under four hours, simply because I wanted to know what would happen next.
